Ana-Lucía for solo guitar (2024)

Ana-Lucía for solo guitar was commissioned by An Tran to celebrate his young daughter Ana-Lucía, who is two years old at the time of this composition. In this work, I wanted to portray several facets of a parent’s experience with a young child: the child’s energy and excitement; her playfulness, rambunctiousness, and temper tantrums; and the calm and tender rituals of naptime and bedtime.

This work features frequent meter changes. If no tempo change is indicated, keep the sixteenth note value steady as time signatures change. My beaming indicates desired metric accents.

Measures 112-113 can be repeated ad libitum while fading out the sound; to add a theatrical element, they can be played while slowly walking off the stage. Some gentle humming can be added in that passage as well.
